Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action video game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and published by Konami for the PlayStation. It was released in Japan in September 1998, and in North America and Europe in October 1998. The game's story follows Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit. The game features 3D graphics and gameplay similar to the Tenchu series. The game was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, selling over 6 million copies worldwide.
